What to do with your down time :: Teran Elaine Photography :: Feature Friday

October, November and December brought in numerous sessions, late night power editing and the income to match it. Now what? Are you finding yourself sitting by the phone waiting for those clients to call in the winter months?

Check out these 5 ways that you can utilize your down time wisely!

You better work it (as in NETWORK!
During busy seasons, it is difficult to find the time for anything other than editing, booking and ordering. Why not network with other local businesses with your new found time?  Take a handful of business cards and hit the pavement. Stop into various boutiques and stores and meet the owners. Find ways that you can help each other out. It’s a win-win situation for all! Want to meet other photographers in your area? Arrange a Photographer’s coffee at your local coffee house and catch up and meet everyone!

Educate Yourself!
One of the greatest parts to photography is that there is always room to grow and learn. Take a class on one of the many photography forums out there or sign up for a mentorship to utilize your time. Never. Stop. Learning.

Update That Portfolio!
Did your fall sessions bring beautiful warm colors that would look amazing on your website? Add  ‘em! Spice up your website while showcasing your latest work. Does your blog need a little bit of sprucing up? Go through and add your last sessions! Give those clients another reason to book you.

Those Three Letters…S.E.O!
You now have an amazing website featuring your latest sessions, why not boost your SEO! Research says that potential clients contact the first three websites in a search almost 100% of the time! Leave comments on other photographer’s blogs, update your description on your website using key words, submit sessions to various photography blogs to be featured. Continue to blog even during the down months. Get your name out there!

Challenge Yourself!
Have you been wanting to try a new technique? Put out a casting call and shoot…FOR FUN! This will keep you challenging yourself and keep you fresh for those upcoming sessions.

Use that time wisely and be ready when that phone starts to ring!
